Xavier Demolishes San Beda, 106 – 85

The Xavier Golden Stallions led by back-to-back Tiong Lian Most Valuable Player, Jeron Teng and RP Youth U-16 mainstay, Kyles Lao, defeated the quick and pestering San Beda squad last Saturday for their second straight win, 106-85.

The Stallions started off slow and sloppy with San Beda capitalizing on their speed advantage, which forced Xavier coach, Jonathan “Budds” Reyes, to call an early timeout. The Stallions adjusted by experimenting with their second stringers early in the game. Kyles Lao scored 15 of his 24 points in the 1st canto, a lot coming from fastbreak lay-ups. San Beda just stayed patient with their offense and maximized on their second chance opportunities to keep the game close despite their size disadvantage. San Beda hotshot and RP Youth U-16 mainstay, Andre Caracut, led the Red Cubs with 17 points, 11 of which came in the 1st half.

The 3rd quarter was an exciting slugfest with both teams exchanging baskets in a blistering pace but that was about to change come payoff period. In the 4th quarter, “Mr. 104”, Jeron Teng, went on a scoring rampage, scoring 19 of his game-high 43 points in the 4th quarter with most coming on fadeaway jumpshots and San Beda couldn’t do anything to stop him.

This is the first year that Xavier joined this annual tournament, which pits the different high school teams against each other. This would serve as the Stallions preparation for the upcoming Metro Manila Tiong Lian Basketball League where the Stallions will go for an unprecedented 5-peat.
